Doubled-Die Obverse

One major error coin is the 1934 Doubled Die Washington Quarter. This coin can be identified by noticing the very prominent doubling of the words "IN GOT WE TRUST" on the obverse of the coin.

Light Motto

One major variety of the 1934 Washington silver quarter features a Light Motto. This coin can be identified by noting how the "IN GOD WE TRUST" motto on the obverse of the coin is blurry and nearly indistinct.

Variety Differences: The light motto is very weak and the letters are nearly indistinct due to a worn die. The medium motto has a strong strike with clear letters but the letters are thin just like the light motto. The middle of the "W" in "WE" is aligned lower than the tops of the sides of the letter "W". The heavy motto has a strong strike but the letters are much thicker and the middle of the "W" is aligned higher and lines up with the top of the sides of the "W".

Medium Motto

One major variety of the 1934 Washington silver quarter features a Medium Motto. This coin can be identified by noting how the "IN GOD WE TRUST" motto on the obverse of the coin is very clear and struck strongly. The middle of the "W" in "WE" is aligned lower and does not line up with the sides of the "W" (as it does in the heavy motto). The letters are also much thinner than the heavy motto varieties.
