Gripped Edge 1796 Reverse

One major variety of the 1797 Draped Bust Large Cent (Penny) features the Reverse of 1795. This is the older design which features between 17-21 leaves on the left side branch and 16-20 leaves on the right side branch. The most notable feature is there is only one single leaf on the top of the right-side branch which identifies it as the 1795 reverse design.


Plain Edge 1795 Reverse

One major variety of the 1797 Draped Bust Large Cent (Penny) features the Reverse of 1795. This is the older design which features between 17-21 leaves on the left side branch and 16-20 leaves on the right side branch. 1797 Reverse With Stems

One major variety of the 1797 Draped Bust Large Cent (Penny) features the reverse design of 1797 with stems. The reverse of 1797 features exactly 16 leaves on the left branch and 19 leaves on the right branch with two leaves (double leaf) on the top of the right side branch. In this variety the two stems on the bottom of the branches are present.


1797 Reverse Stemless

One major variety of the 1797 Draped Bust Large Cent (Penny) features the reverse design of 1797 with no stems. This stemless variety is more valuable and rarer than the one with stems. The reverse of 1797 features exactly 16 leaves on the left branch and 19 leaves on the right branch with two leaves (double leaf) on the top of the right side branch. In this variety the two stems on the bottom of the branches are missing.
